Once again, Providence High School in South Charlotte, NC led ALL Charlotte region public high schools on 2011 SAT scores!  Consistently an academic powerhouse, Providence High School in South Charlotte is obviously preparing its students for college and beyond.  With a cumulative score of 1693 (math + reading + writing) Providence High School topped all public high schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), Union County Schools, and other county systems in the Charlotte region.  To maintain this top-ranked public school in Charlotte status year in and year out is quite a feat!  (See table of Charlotte NC SAT scores below)

Providence High School in South Charlotte NC Gets Highest SAT Scores in 2011!

Providence High School's SAT scores in 2011 exceeded the national SAT average of 1500 by 193 points, and the the North Carolina SAT average of of 1475 by 218 points!  The average CMS SAT score was 1482, and the average Union County Schools score was 1518.  The College Board reported a decline in scores nationally, and this decline was reflected slightly in CMS and state scores.  Click here to see a list of SAT scores for all NC public high schools in 2011 (scroll to bottom of news release and click on Excel document link).

South Charlotte high school students consistently outranked their peers on SAT scores in the Charlotte region, with al six South Charlotte High Schools ranking in the top 10 public schools in the Charlotte region.  This high performance on SAT's mirrors the South Charlotte high schools high performance on 2011 end-of-course exams.  Here's how the 6 South Charlotte high schools fared on the 2011 SAT's:

  •   Myers Park High School   (#2)
  •   Ardrey Kell High School   (#4)
  •   South Mecklenburg High School   (#6)

I love to hear good news. So often we here of ways we have fallen back or fallen behind. I love to hear that someone is doing great. Congrats to  Providence High school their dedicated teachers and great students! News like this should encourage others to do the same! Thanks for sharing.

Dinah, this is definitely a coup for Providence!  They are having to deal with severe budget cuts, but they still manage to move forward.

Christine - I'm a proud parent of 2 PHS grads, and one in 10th grade.  They work hard - teachers and students.

Karen, the demand is quite large around Providence High School, and the school definitely impacts property values positively.
