Pinterest your way to a better home
Recently I found out about Pinterest and I'm so glad I did!
The best way I can describe this site is that it’s a hybrid of a pin board, Facebook/Twitter, and Etsy - social media at its creative best. As a member you create categories of your choosing and then ‘pin’ items to these categories or boards. A pin can be everything from a picture to a website. You are able to add friends to follow what catches their eye – and if it appeals to you, repin to one of your boards.
As a visual person it’s sometimes hard for me to articulate projects or improvements I want to do. Pinterest has been very fun and helpful as I work through these. When I have something in mind I have a good sense of what it is but the execution can be my down fall. Either I can’t exactly describe what I’m picturing or when I am in a store, I get overwhelmed by all the choices and choose nothing.
One recent plan was revising our mudroom wall. As we enter from the garage, this area has become our operation central of sorts. There was a dry erase board for notes, a pin board for items to keep handy and a basket on the island for mail, bills etc (that more often than not turned into an open air junk drawer).
I used Pinterest to find ideas and organize my thoughts on what would work for us. After gathering my ideas and supplies I turned my ‘before’ into a great ‘after’ that includes a mail sorter, message, pin and chalk boards and is more aesthetically pleasing and functional for our family.
My point is Pinterest can be a useful tool for home buyers. What a simple way to organize and visualize wants and needs for a future home. And then once you’ve helped your client find it the perfect home -Pinterest can help them personalize it!
It's not just for home decor however. It's really a platform for whatever ideas you want to collect. Some of my friends are great sources for DIY ideas....others for Food & Drink recipes I must try. Even if what you need is a little inspirational pick me up...there's that too.
If you’re already a Pinterest member, let me know how you’ve used it and let’s connect. If not and you give it a try, I’d love to hear your experiences too!
