When it comes to rigorous academics and high achievement, Providence High School in Charlotte, NC, is one of the highest ranking high schools in the city and in the State of North Carolina.  Schooldigger.com reports that Providence High School is ranked # 11 out of 501 high schools in NC.  When the number of students is factored in, it is clear that even with a student population of over 2,000 students in grades 9-12, Providence is one of the best high schools in NC for academic excellence.


Located in south Charlotte, Providence High School is a consistent leader in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, as it regularly exceeds district and state standards for academic achievement.  2008-2009 was an excellent year for Providence students:  the proficiency rate on End-of-Course exams was 92.4 percent, an increase of 3 percent for the previous year.  Additionally, Providence was one of only 6 Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools to meet all of the targets for Adequate Yearly Progress, the standard set by the No Child Left Behind Act.

Providence High School offers a rigorous course of study and learning opportunities for its students, with a wide array of Advanced Placement and higher level Honors courses.  In fact, 97.7 % of all Providence students enrolled in AP courses, and over 81 percent of those students scored high enough on their AP exams to receive college credit.  On SAT tests, the average score of Providence students is 1708, while the national average is 1509 and the state average is 1486.

The faculty at Providence High School is highly qualified, with over 50% of all teachers holding advanced degrees, and 17% achieving National Board Certification. With eager students, and strong parent and community support, Providence High School will likely continue to rank among the highest-achieving

But Providence High School is not just about academics. Students can participate in a wide array of extracurricular activities, including athletics, clubs, student government and leadership, band, symphony and choral competitions, honor societies, and incredible drama and musical productions twice a year.

School spirit is rampant with the Providence Panthers!  For big football games against area rivals, students are decked out in Panther black and gold, and the huge football stadium is filled to over-flowing with vocal students cheering for their team! 

A new fantastic addition to the Providence Panthers football stadium is a HUGE JumboTron scoreboard, generously donated by CPI Security Systems.  Fans can watch instant replays on the huge screen, adding to the "big-game" atmosphere.  Check it out to the left!

Providence High School, Charlotte NC, HomecomingOn a recent Friday night, Providence students cheered as Muriel Epling was crowned Homecoming Queen for 2009!  If you look closely on the JumboTronProvidence High School, Charlotte NC, Jumbotron scoreboard screen to the right, you can see the sports car that drove the Homecoming court around the track as they were introduced to the crowd!

Thanks for stopping by, Courtney!  That means a whole lot coming from you!!!  This school is great - but I'm glad I didn't have to go there!  My high school back in the Dark Ages was WAY easier!
