Thank You Steve Jobs, for Your Incredible Vision

Thank you, Steve Jobs, for your incredible vision!

Steve Jobs

The world shook for me a bit yesterday, and things are a bit askew today.  I'm not talking about an earthquake or any type of natural disaster; I'm referring to the untimely passing of Apple founder Steve Jobs.  The world has lost a true visionary, someone who changed the world for the better, for so many people.  As kids in school, we learned about true visionaries in our nation's history - Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford - all of these talented people greatly impacted our lives and our future.  I believe that Steve Jobs will be held in the same esteem.

I admit it, I'm an Apple junkie!  I have been ever since my daughter (then in 9th grade) used all of her lifeguarding earnings one summer to by an Apple MacBook.  My husband and I thought she was CRAZY, and tried to talk her out of it.  But she was a persistent young teen, and wanted that COOL factor that is the hallmark of everything Apple.  My husband accompanied her to the store, helped her make her choices....and then began to fall in love with Apple products too.  I mean, who wouldn't?  The Apple Store is like eye candy for anyone - techno geek or not!  That's the beauty of Apple products and what Jobs has created...he made technology FUN, COOL, and EFFICIENT!

Well my husband brought home an Apple desktop for the family.  I thought he was crazy, and told him so continuously.  Until I started to use it.  Doggone, that thang is SMART!  It's INTUITIVE!  It's USER FRIENDLY!  I began fighting for time on the iMac, and within a week, I was sold.

We watched as the iPod took off, and Steve Jobs changed the way the world listens to and acquires music.  I churned with envy every time I saw a new iPhone.  I would have gotten the first one, but was stuck in a phone plan.  But as soon as that plan was up, I got my baby....my precious....my iPhone!!!  It is truly a revolutionary and remarkable device, and one I will never be without.  I'm on my second one because I stupidly left my first one on the hood of the car, drove off unknowingly, and later recovered it (with the help of the iPhone's Find My Phone Feature) in the middle of a busy road, irretrievably smashed.

I waited a year before succombing to the iPad.  Oh yeah, it was way cool, but I couldn't justify the expense.  Now that I have one, I marvel at its uses - web surfing, email, e-reader.  My clients look up homes when we're out touring and we pass a home for sale that isn't on my list.  I've learned how to use Drop Box so that I can have instant access to important documents when I'm on the go.

As President Obama noted in his tribute to Steve Jobs, it was totally fitting that I learned of Steve Jobs's passing on my iPhone, on Twitter.  So thank you, thank you Steve Jobs, for your gifts to mankind, your talents, your vision, and your quest to live life to its fullest.  You are already sorely missed, and greatly appreciated.
